Harris S. (Mickey) Moore,
Jr., 72, peacefully passed on
Thursday after a lengthy
battle with cancer.
Mickey was born in
Decatur and spent most of
his life in Huntsville. He was
educated in the Huntsville
school system and was a
member of the Class of '59
at Huntsville High School.
He loved the many sports
activities available here
during these years and the
lifelong friendships with
so many of his team mates.
He was a three sports
player but concentrated
on basketball. His 17 year
athletic career included
youth teams, high school,
college, US Army, and the
Semi Pros. His many honors
and awards include the 1959
Huntsville Acme Club Most
Outstanding Athlete Award.
In 1992, he was inducted
into the Huntsville-Madison
County Athletic Hall of
Fame.
Mickey was a long
time active member of
Mayfair Church of Christ.
He was also an active
member of many local
civic groups and service
organizations including
the Elks and Eagles. He
had a 20 year career with
Litton Industries followed
by owning and operating
a local printing company.
He was a good friend and
helpful neighbor to many.
He was a member of Mount
Zion Baptist Church, an
avid bass fisherman and a
lifelong Alabama sports fan.
Mickey is survived by:
his son, Harris III; daughter,
Stephanie (Jeff); three
grandsons; sister; brother;
many nieces and nephews;
and his long time sweetheart
Charlotte Strong Neal.
Visitation will be Tuesday
at Berryhill Funeral Home
from 5-8 p.m. Graveside
service at Maple Hill will
be Wednesday at 11:00
a.m. conducted by Gerald
Dupree. Pallbearers will be
his former teammates.
