Clifton Wayne
Hargrave
November 28, 1932 – October 27, 2024
A celebration of life for Clifton Wayne (C.W.) Hargrave, 92 will be held on Saturday, November 2 at 3:00 pm at Berryhill Funeral Home in Huntsville, Alabama. A visitation with the family will be from 2:00 until time of the service.
Born November 28, 1932 to Edward and Dosha Hargrave of Lincoln County, Tennessee, Wayne was a 1951 graduate of Blanche High School. Upon graduation, Wayne joined the Navy, returning home in 1952 to marry his high school sweetheart, Peggy Ann Milam. During their first years of marriage, they were stationed in California and Virginia. In 1955, Wayne completed his naval service and they made the Huntsville area their home.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Peggy Hargrave, son in law, Wayne Joseph Simmons, and sister, Fannie Mae Helums. He is survived by daughter, Sherry Simmons Bailey, and son, Steven Wayne Hargrave. Wayne was tagged "G" by his first grandchild, Rusty. He was loved by his grandchildren and great grandchildren alike. Grandchildren are Rusty (Claudia), Tyler (Deidre) and Austin (Heidi) Simmons. Great Grandchildren are Maggie, Reed, Cason, Graham, Lane and Randall (RJ) Simmons.
For over thirty years, Wayne was employed by the telephone company. After retirement he managed the delivery operations at Peggy's Log Cabin, a family floral business located on North Parkway for thirty-six years. His strong work ethic was evident throughout his life.
As a baptized believer, Wayne carried out his love for the Lord in service for others. He was always available to help neighbors when there was a tree down and wood needed to be cut. Wayne spent many days with Steve cutting wood around Madison County. He was a gardener for many years and enjoyed growing vegetables mainly to share with others. It was common place to hear him tell family and friends to come get some vegetables. He also enjoyed using the produce and cooking family meals. Until the cabin closed, Wayne continued to spend afternoons helping Sherry when drivers weren't available to deliver. His joy came from helping other people.
Instead of flowers or donations, please honor Wayne with an act of kindness for someone.
