Jerry Steven Ashby of Meridianville, AL passed away on July 28, 2024.

He is survived by his beloved wife Kim Ashby; daughter, Kara Pearcy (Todd Lawyer, Partner) of Crossville, TN, and son, Kevin Pearcy (Kristin) of Clinton, IA, grandson Zane Smith (Myrna) of Japan, granddaughter Mia Pearcy of Clinton, IA, and grandson Evan Pearcy of Clinton, IA.  Jerry is also survived by three sisters; Linda Hildebrand of Charleston, IL, Gayle Behning of Champaign, IL and Judy Brown (Mike) of Mattoon, IL and one brother Steve Ashby (Connie) of Texas.   Jerry is also survived by three nieces; Melissa Starwalt (Greg) of Christiana, TN, Jennifer Slightom (Doug James, Partner) of Charleston, IL and Michelle Behning of Rockford, IL and one nephew; Jeremy Barnes of Charleston, IL.  He is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father (Gene Ashby), his mother (Catherine Ashby), Brothers (Sonny and Randy Ashby) and Sister (Barbara Barnes).

Jerry was born on March 11, 1950 in Rardin, IL, graduating from Charleston High School in 1968. He  joined the United States Navy in 1968 serving until 1972.  He served on the Charleston Fire Department for 26 years, retiring as a Captain.  He then went to work for the Illinois State Fire Marshall's office as a fire inspector; retiring after 15 years of service.

Jerry was a dedicated member of the Black Knights of the Embarrass having many lasting memories of his time with fellow Knights. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW Post #1592 and a member of the Charleston Moose #1388.

Jerry loved spending time with his family and friends, especially time spent around the pool at his family home.  He also loved his annual fishing trips to Mississippi with his good friends Tyler and Greg and bragging about how many fish he caught and how big they were. He also loved to travel, a good mojito and lots of laughs with loved ones.  Some of his favorite places to visit were Key West, FL; Biloxi, MS and Hollywood Beach, FL.  Jerry will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held on August 10, 2024 at the Charleston Moose, 615 7th St., Charleston, IL from 1 pm to 4 pm.  Food will be served.  Donations in Jerry's name can be made to The American Cancer Society or The Diabetes Association of America
