Mack
Thompson
November 9, 1937 – August 3, 2023
Mack was a native of Altoona, Alabama but has been a resident of Madison and Limestone Counties for over 60 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Ann Thompson and his grandson, Bradley Thompson. He is survived by his son, Alan Thompson (Becki); daughter, Lisa Warden (Harry); sister Susan Rowan (Ray); grandchildren, Christy Howard (Jeff), Dustin Warden (Vanessa), Megan Perkins (Derick), Anna Warden, Haley Slifko (Jake), Paris Wall (Dylan), and Samuel Crandall; and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Allyson, Callie, Rowan and Murphy.
He was an avid sports fan, traveling across the country many times to support Alabama football, baseball, and basketball and was a true sports enthusiast.
He had a great sense of humor and as a NASA employee he was known as a serial prankster, causing chaos and mayhem on a regular basis and would do anything for a laugh.
He was a lifetime animal lover. As a child, he had over 100 chickens that free ranged around his home town of Altoona, AL. He owned birds and snakes, cats and dogs, rabbits, a goat and an alligator. He always had at least one pet in his home.
He had an endless sweet tooth and enjoyed baking to satisfy that craving any time of day or night. He mastered the art of the lemon meringue pie, chocolate pie, and any sort of fruit cobbler. He could kill some chocolate fudge.
He was always encouraging and kind and was a big hit with his children's friends… always had them laughing. He was loved by everyone and was forever popular. At the end, his nurses fought to be his caregiver.
He did have a small problem… he would leave the house to buy a shirt or grab some lunch and come back with a new car. He was known to buy multiple new cars per year. He kept GM in business for many years.
He loved his family very much and would do anything for them and the feeling was mutual.
