Roy Edward
Mooneyham
October 28, 1938 – December 20, 2024
Reverend Roy Mooneyham died on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Crestwood Medical Center. He was 86.
Throughout his life, Bro. Roy preached the gospel of Jesus Christ. He surrendered to preach in 1964. He completed his education at Baptist Bible Institute, Mobile College and New Orleans Theological Seminary. Born Oct. 28, 1938, in Montgomery, Alabama to Simmie and Ollie Mae
Mooneyham, he attended Lanier High School. He played football there with his cousin Marlin Mooneyham in which they would run the "Mooneyham Special".
Although he loved Alabama football, his passion was for Jesus Christ. His favorite Bible verse was Romans 8:32 "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?"
Bro. Roy's other passion was his beautiful wife of 60 years, Judy Ann Mooneyham, who passed away July 13, 2018. They were married September 10, 1958, and had four (4) children; Lore Farley (husband Darin Farley; daughters Amanda and Leslie), Tami Mooneyham (Don Layne; daughters Christina and Sabrina), Miriam Baker (daughter DeLisa and son Roy), and Stephen Mooneyham (wife Kristi; sons Slater, Brody and Lassen). They had nine (9) grandkids, twelve (12) great grandchildren, and one (1) great, great grandson.
When not preaching or working up a sermon, Roy enjoyed oil painting, fishing, spending time with his family, and fellowshipping with his church family.
Although Roy was an only child, he had a special relationship with Dorothy Phelps (Aunt Dot; his mother's sister) who was like his own big sister who loved him so much and took him everywhere she went.
Roy Mooneyham touched so many lives while on this earth. It has been said that "he never met a stranger" and "always had a smile on his face" ... true joy exuded from his heart and "you could tell he truly loved the Lord". He will be greatly missed by one and all.
