Celebration of Life for Barbara Winston Langley Pease

October 3, 1939 – August 6, 2026

John. 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”

Barbara Winston Langley Pease, went home to be with the Lord, August 6, 2026, at her home in Huntsville, AL. Barbara was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, October 3, 1939, to LTC Howard Winston Langley and Margaret Claussen Langley. Her father was deployed during WWII, & then later assigned to Oahu, Hawaii where they were very happy. Barbara loved a hidden place “Marble Rock” overlooking a beautiful waterfall. Later in Washington DC, she lost her father at age 13.

Barbara attended Rivers High School. After graduating from Palmer Business School, she worked as the head of the Escrow Dept. of 1st Federal Savings & Loan in Charleston.

In 1960, she met her husband, Walt, at Sullivan’s Island, SC, and they married 2 months later and moved to Auburn. She worked at the Bank of Auburn, while Walt finished his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. During their time at Auburn, they began their family. She was very smart and succeeded at everything -- President of Auburn Engineer’s Wives Club, Vice President of the Huntsville Republican Women, and served on the Huntsville Arthritis Foundation Board of Directors.

Barbara’s life was spent in service to others. She was a wonderful housewife, and mother to Diane and Jerry. Her greatest joy in life was to create special meals, play cards & Scrabble (like a champion), plan vacations, and watch Jeopardy. She was also very funny. She loved non-fiction books, and books of real life trivia, and was very interesting in conversations. Cooking was her passion, and she was known for her delicious meals and desserts, especially her Dutch Apple Pie.

Walt and Barbara were best friends, and they joined Covenant Presbyterian Church 55 years ago. She loved the Lord dearly. From 1983-2006, Barbara owned Pease Scooters & Lifts. She always took care of her customers and treated them as friends. She was the #1 salesperson in Alabama!

When her grandchildren, Katie & Bonnie, were born she agreed to keep them for 3.5 years, while Diane worked. “Mimi” always made the girls, along with her five great grandchildren, & their friends feel loved and special. Due to back injuries, she suffered with pain for many years, however, people said she was always smiling. She loved her beagles (favorite “Beau”), and her beloved Cocker Spaniel, Charlie.

Even in her final days, she was buying birthday presents & worrying about our health issues, instead of her own. In short, she laid down her life for us. Her love was never failing.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Walter T. Pease; her sister, Marcia Harris; her daughter Diane Margaret Whitmore (Steve Whitmore); her son Jerry Walter Pease (George Mann); her granddaughter Katie Garner (Luke Garner) and great grandchildren: Everett Wells Garner, Henley Kate Garner, and Libby June Garner; and her granddaughter Bonnie LaTorre (Trey LaTorre) and great grandchildren: Kelly Ann LaTorre and Oliver Pete LaTorre.

A private burial service will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery, August 15, 2026 followed by a celebration of life ceremony on August 16, 2026 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Huntsville AL.

Celebration of Life worship service at Covenant Presbyterian church Sunday, August 16, 2:00 pm Visitation and 3:00 pm worship service.

She will be dearly missed by our family. We love you!
