Betty Lee Green, 87, devoted mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home July 12, 2026 – surrounded by her children.
She was born in Hartselle, AL on July 14, 1938. She and her parents moved to Huntsville when she was a small child, and she grew up here. After living in White Sands, NM and Lompoc, CA during her husband’s Air Force career – they returned to Huntsville to live.
She was a Christian and a faithful member of Lincoln Memorial Baptist Church, Heritage Baptist Church, Mountain View Baptist Church and at the time of her death – she was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. She sang in the choir, was on the hostess committer and a member of the WMU at Lincoln, Heritage and Mountain View. She deeply loved her “church family”. Her favorite thing to do was attend Southern Gospel Music concerts – especially with New Ground.
Her greatest treasures were her children by birth and those she “adopted” through the years. She also loved her grandchildren and “adopted” grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite name was “Ms. Betty” and “Mimi”. When she loved – she loved FIERCLY!
She worked in Accounts Payable for most of her career and retired in 2017 from Crestwood Hospital after 30+ years. She would return the very next week to volunteer in the same office from where she retired. She volunteered until Covid cancelled all volunteers.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Eunice Richardson, her father, Thomas Richardson, her youngest son, Terry W. Green, two sisters, Martha Beverly and Vicky Patin and her special aunt, Ruby Nethery.
She is survived by her daughter, Pam Green, two sons, Tony and David Shaw, her brother, Thomas Jr. Richardson (Lea) and her sister, Carolyn Bryant (Larry), her precious friend of 60+ years, Betty Sisk Michael, her devoted friend, Debbie Williams, her “bonus” daughters, Taska Clark (Steve) and Teresa Patterson (Don), her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and loved ones.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 5pm – 8pm. The memorial service will be on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 10 am at Berryhill Funeral Home on North Parkway. Internment will be as Valhalla Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Tony Shaw, David Shaw. Steve Clark, Bruce Stone, Dan Beddingfield and Jeffery Beverly. Honorary pallbearers will be Big’un Bailey, Thomas Richardson, Tyler Bailey, Casey Clark and Ron Turner.
