Betty Beckham
Mahone
November 12, 1948 – April 18, 2026
Betty Jane Beckham Mahone passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 18, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on November 12, 1948 to Lorene and Clifford Beckham in Decatur, Alabama.
Betty was a longtime Huntsville resident and graduate of Butler High School in 1968. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 41 years Michael Mahone; and her brother, Dwayne Beckham (Freda). She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Hanish (Nathan); her grandchildren, Elliott and Sadie, who were great joys to her later years; her nieces Shrail Heinrich (Steve), and Michelle Diebold; and many supportive in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Betty lived a full life shaped by family, community, and a deep love for the places and people who made up her life.
Betty built a long and respected career in banking and real estate. Early in her career she worked at Fidelity Federal Savings and Loan. Later she worked at 1st Southern and First American Federal as Assistant Vice President. After her banking career she moved into real estate sales for Smartt Realty and Rise Real Estate where both her warmth and straightforward honesty made her a trusted friend to clients and colleagues alike. She had a special love for the Gulf Coast. Its sun, breeze, and slower pace suited her easy, generous, and unhurried personality. She was an active member of Elks Lodge #1648 in Huntsville, where she enjoyed decades of volunteering for many events that support the local community. She found lasting friendships at the Elks Lodge over many years. Those who knew Betty will remember her warmth, and the way she made the friends and family feel cared for. She will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life to be held at Berryhill Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 21 from 4 - 6 PM. Another gathering hosted at Elks Lodge #1648 will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to your favorite charity or the Elks National Foundation.
