Obituary

Born in May 1940 to James E. and Lucile Patterson Joiner in the Patterson homestead, now Tate Farms.

Betty was a local beauty that enjoyed playing Riverton High School basketball (was the basketball homecoming queen) and in later years played softball.  She was an avid gardener that never killed a plant.  Coffee and cigarettes were her daily habit.  Her other loves and interests were family gatherings and cooking with Sister Edna, her cat Rip, reading, watching church services on Sunday and she said "Roll Tide" for years.

Betty retired from Parker-Hanifin after 24 years with flowers, limo and a rock-climbing experience at the U. S. Space and Rocket Center, a wish of hers gifted by her daughter.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, and her son, James David Sparkman.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Sparkman Murphy of Huntsville, and one beloved grandson, Thomas Conrad Murphy of Atlanta, Georgia.  Thomas and Granny loved and enjoyed each other so beautifully.  Also survived by her brother, J. Curtis Joiner (Laura) of Trussville, Alabama, two sisters Edna Joiner Askins (James Lloyd ((Bud)) deceased) currently of Owens Cross Roads and Lexie Joiner Dickson (Randell L.) of Huntsville, one nephew and six nieces, great nephews and nieces and their children.

Sandra and Thomas will be receiving guests at her home to honor Betty.  Bring your best memories of her or write them down for a later reading.
