Obituary

Carolyn Claudette Campbell, known affectionately by many as "Nanny," passed away peacefully on the afternoon of April 30, 2026, in Huntsville, Alabama, surrounded by her loving family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she went home to be with her Lord and Savior, leaving behind a legacy of faith and devotion.

A woman of boundless grace and a servant’s heart, Carolyn was the cornerstone of the Campbell family. For 49 years, she walked hand-in-hand with her beloved husband, Carl Campbell Jr., building a life defined by loyalty, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to one another.

Born in Gainesville, Georgia, Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Dooley and Annie Mae Humphries. She carried a song in her heart and a dance in her step, finding joy in the simple, beautiful rhythms of life—singing, dancing, and cooking for those she loved. To know her was to know a kindness that was as rare as it was genuine. Her faith was her compass, and her love for Jesus was the light of her life.

Carolyn’s greatest masterpiece was her family. An unbelievable home maker, she possessed a nurturing spirit so vast that she lovingly took on the role of raising two sets of children at different periods in her life. She was never happier than when the entire family gathered together; she cherished family reunions and adored her extended family with a sweetness and devotion that can never be replaced.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Carl Campbell Jr.; her three sons, Shay Campbell (Gwen), Joshua Campbell, and Jace Campbell (Megan); and her three daughters, Destani Campbell, Starr Hodgson (George), and Christina Hiles (Nathan).

Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Mandy, Kandice, Shana, Riley, Dylan, Kendall, and Ava, as well as Ellsie, and many great-grandchildren.

Carolyn’s life was a testament to the fact that love is not just a feeling, but an action. While she will be profoundly missed, her family takes comfort in knowing their Nanny is now singing and dancing in the presence of Jesus.
