Charles Daniel Higgins, known to all as Dan, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer.

Dan was a kind and gentle soul who spent his life helping others. He loved people and dedicated himself to lifting others up in any way he could. Known for his warm, genuine smile — which earned him the nickname "Smiling Dan" — he brightened every room he entered and made everyone feel welcome.

A gifted classical guitarist, accomplished martial artist, and skilled arborist, Dan brought both beauty and strength into the world through his music, his discipline, and his work. He was a spiritual man who lived by quiet example — always giving, encouraging, and uplifting those around him.

He helped many people throughout his life, touching countless hearts with his generosity and compassion. His light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew him.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Charles "Charlie" and Dorothy "Dot" Higgins. He is survived by his sisters Donna Potter, Catherine Fortenberry, and Virginia Higgins; nephews David Garner (Sonya), Shannon Fortenberry, and Alex Setterlund (P.J.); great-niece Caroline Fortenberry; and his uncle Jack Daniel (Debbie). His loss is also mourned by countless cousins, friends, and colleagues.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no formal funeral. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor the beautiful soul he was.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Dan's memory.
