Obituary

Charles (Charlie) Larry Davis, age 87, of Cullman, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Charlie was born on April 20, 1938, in Bastrop, Louisiana, to the late Elijah Roscoe Davis and Aileen Davis Tarver. He graduated from Bastrop High School before answering the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army. Over a distinguished 20-year military career, Charlie rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class, earning the respect of his peers and exemplifying the values of integrity, discipline, and unwavering commitment.

After retiring from the Army, Charlie continued his lifelong dedication to service through a 25-year career as a calibration technician for the US Army Test, Measurement Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) at Redstone Arsenal, AL.

Charlie's life was deeply rooted in his Christian faith. He was a man of prayer who taught his children to give thanks before every meal and made it a treasured family tradition to read the story of Christ's birth each Christmas. He was ordained as a deacon while stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and continued to serve faithfully for many years. Most recently, he was a dedicated member and deacon at Good Hope Baptist Church in Cullman, and before that, served at Liberty Baptist Church in Huntsville.  His devotion to the Lord was the cornerstone of his life, matched only by his love for his family, his country, and Alabama football.

Charlie was preceded in death by his beloved first wife of 48 years, Gladys Davis. He is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce Heaven Davis; daughters: Joyce Blanks, Marjie Davis (Tim), and Stacy Thiot (David); sons: Larry Davis (Gina), Danny Davis (Kristin), and Jeff Harbison (Becky). He also leaves behind a cherished legacy through his many grandchildren: Cody Davis, Cody Williams, Kailynn Campbell (Brent), Autumn Jobman (Patrick), Drew Davis (Rachel), Bre  Bowden (Shawn), Michele Ivey-Hagler (David), Jacob Thiot, Jessie Thiot, Evan Harbison, Heather Boatwright, Jordan Harbison, Brianna Harbison; and a host of great-grandchildren. Charlie is also survived by his siblings: sister: Barbara Strange of Bastrop, LA, brothers: James Davis of McKinney, TX, and Kenneth Roscoe Davis of Athens, GA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
