Obituary

Charles Martin Rice, age 97, of Huntsville, AL passed away on April 1, 2025. Mr. Rice retired from SCI, Inc in 1995 and enjoyed his retirement years traveling and sharing family adventures with his wife, three daughters and husbands, one grandson, four granddaughters and husbands and ten great-grandchildren.

Mr. Rice is survived by his wife of 76 years, Martha Snider Rice; daughters, Jane (John) Holloway, Robin (Roger) Schneider, of Huntsville, AL; and Laura (Foster) Christy of Columbia, SC; his grandchildren, Lauren (Jared) Roberts, Bethany (William) Gannon, Ann- Marie (Tyler) Settelen, Morgan Schneider, and Laura-Ellen (Austin) Albison; and his great- grandchildren, Caroline, Connor, Joshua, Elizabeth, Ann Olivia, Isaac, Samuel, Titus, Jensen and Brock.

Chuck was a sports enthusiast. He played all varsity sports at Anniston High School and football at the University of Georgia. (For many years, golfing with friends brought Chuck great joy). In 1948, upon returning from Georgia to Anniston, Chuck was employed by Lee Brother's Brass Foundry. He married his high school sweetheart, Martha, on November 25, 1948.

In 1962, SCI employed Mr. Rice and the family moved from Anniston to their new home in Huntsville. Chuck's work ethic and commitment to excellence was evident in everything he did. He was meticulous, easy going, and a man of his word. His SCI Team engineered key parts for DOD and NASA contracts.

Chuck and Martha established a living legacy of fidelity in their marriage. Their influence was felt by their daughters and husbands, friends, and their First Baptist Church faith family. Chuck served as an usher and he and Martha were charter members of the Ralph Langley Sunday School class.

Chuck's memorial service will be on Sunday, April 6th at the First Baptist Church Chapel. Visitation will begin at 1:30 PM followed by the service at 2 PM. Interment will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery.

The family is thankful for your care of them and the many friends who have responded and celebrated the life of this true gentleman, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. We will miss his keen mind, quick smile, telling laughter, complete recall of memories, and gentle spirit.
