Obituary

Conor Meadows Barrett passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the age of 41.  Conor is survived by wife Lauren Maples Barrett, his two children: Franklin Porter Barrett, Mary Francis Barrett, stepchildren: Avery Still, Porter Still, and Owen Still.  His parents, Kim and Bruce Whitaker of Canton, Georgia. His brother Frank Barrett of Canton, Georgia, his sister Lauren (Evan) Eves and nephews, Jack and Levon of Seattle, Washington.  His grandmother, Julia Meadows Ritchie of Hilton Head, SC, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, good friends, and his favorite furry companion, Scout who will all miss him dearly.

Conor is preceded in death by his biological father, David Michael Barrett, and paternal grandparents, Frank and Alicia Barrett of Oak Harbor Washington.

Conor graduated from Scottsboro High School in 2002 where he played football and wrestled. He was voted Most Humorous by his peers and was co-captain of the football team his senior year.  He attended The University of Alabama majoring in Criminal Justice and business and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity.  Conor received an academic scholarship to attend the University of Alabama in Huntsville, graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering in 2012.  Conor showed interest in building from an early age and found his career as an engineer fulfilling through building projects in his community.

Conor's life journey was marked by meaningful connections and an unwavering devotion to family and friends.  Whether hiking his favorite trails, dancing at a live show, or cooking a meal that brought people together, he found joy in the simple, meaningful moments. Above all, Conor's greatest devotion was to his family.  He was a deeply loving husband, a proud and protective father, and a fiercely loyal friend.  Conor will be deeply missed and forever loved by those who knew him.

A visitation will be held in his memory on Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at Twickenham Church of Christ, 7500 Whitesburg Drive, Huntsville, AL.  Friends and family are invited to gather for a celebration of his life immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the family to help offset medical expenses.
