MSG (Ret). Coy Edward Rose Sr. passed away April 4th 2026 after a short, unexpected illness. Ed spent his life in the service of our country, serving first in the United States Army and then in Civil Service, where he excelled as a Master Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialist and later as an instructor in the same. His contributions in both capacities was immense to the EOD community.
Ed was born September 26, 1946 in New Orleans, La to Everett and Geneva Rose and grew up in western Kentucky. He originally started college on a basketball scholarship but felt a higher calling and enlisted in the US Army in 1972. His duties allowed him to travel the world and he had the honor of serving on the anti-terrorist team at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.
Ed married Toni Leigh Staton on February 14th, 1976 and they were fortunate to be able to celebrate their 50th anniversary this year! Originally stationed in New Jersey, Ed was transferred to Alabama where the family made their home near Redstone Arsenal. Ed called Huntsville home for the remainder of his life.
Ed was proceeded in death by his grand parents Coy and Flouda Randolph, parents Everett and Geneva, son-in-law John Perry II, brother-in-law Wayne Oakley, and his son, Jesse Allen, who passed away just 15 days prior.
He is survived by his wife Toni, sons John and Todd(Jones), daughter Kimberly(Perry), Grandchildren Nathaniel(Bayleigh), Kayla, Dade, Riley, and Victoria. Great-Grandchildren Arya, Meredith, and Maverick, his uncle Maurice Randolph, sisters-in-law Sandy(Wayne) and Brenda(Michael) and many others in his extended family.
Family will have a private celebration of life and his internment, with full military honors, will be held upon completion of the Veterans Cemetery in 2027.
The family would like to thank the physicians, nurses, and medical staff at Crestwood Medical Center for their expert and superb care during Ed’s illness and their compassion and support to the family during his passing.
