Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dale Guffey, Sr., on February 19, 2025, at the age of 84. He was born on April 23, 1940, in Big Cove, Alabama, to the late Paul and Lois Guffey.

Dale is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Johnnie Lee Guffey, and their three children: Dale Guffey, Jr. (Anne), Dixie Cloud (Joe), and Dan Guffey (Lisa). He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren: Josh Guffey (Melissa), Bethany Tidwell (Johnathan), Tiffany Jefferson (Taylor), April Zimmerman, Rachel Demerath (Tim), Jesse Guffey (Mary), Elisha Guffey, Joseph Guffey, and Benji Guffey. He also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren, one sister, Sue Evans of Land O'Lakes, Florida, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who are considered family.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lois Guffey, and two sisters, Diane Guffey and Loretta Stafford.

A devoted Christian, Dale was a longstanding member of Life Church of Huntsville, where he faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher for over 35 years, known for his creative teaching and spiritual leadership in Christian Education.

Dale was also a respected member of the Huntsville Fire Department, where he dedicated 35 years to serving his community, retiring as Assistant Fire Chief in 1998. His love for the Department and the men who served alongside him was evident throughout his career. He also shared his expertise by teaching Fire Science at Snead State, Calhoun Community College, and the Alabama State Fire College.

Dale's deep love for his wife, family, and faith defined his life. His unwavering commitment to service and the love he gave to those around him will be remembered by all who knew him.

A visitation will be held at Life Church of Huntsville (2300 Memorial Pkwy SW, Huntsville, Alabama) on Sunday, February 23rd from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A brief visitation will also be held on Monday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM. The funeral service will be at the church on Monday, February 24th at 11:00 AM, followed by burial at Neal's Chapel Cemetery in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama.
