Obituary

David Oliver Golden, known lovingly as "Pop" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026, just two days shy of his 80th birthday. He was born on August 20, 1946, in Gadsden, Alabama, and spent most of his adult life in Huntsville, the city he was proud to call home. David's greatest loves were his wife, Barbara Golden, and his Lord, Jesus Christ. Together for 61 years of marriage, they grew up and grew old side by side, building a life and a family rooted in devotion to one another. A man of deep faith, David loved Christ first and his family second, and everyone who knew him felt the fullness of that love. He was known far and wide for his generosity and kindness — the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He had the best laugh, one that filled a room and stayed with you long after. To know David was to be loved by him, endlessly and without condition.

For 30 years, David was the proud owner of Country Home Flowers and Gifts, where his warmth and care touched countless customers and friends. He was a veteran who served his country honorably, and for 40 years he was a steadfast and faithful member of Jackson Way Baptist Church. In his free time, he loved golfing, watching westerns, and cheering on his beloved Alabama Crimson Tide football and basketball. David is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his three daughters, Jan(Hartwell) Bentley, Kerry (David) Plunk, and Michelle (Patrick) Sargent; his sister, Lana (Brad) Lackey; and his brother, Bobby Golden. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Nicole (Daniel), Joseph, Olivia (Chase),Kyle, Benjamin (Brittany), David (Brenna), Marissa, Allison (Brady), and Nicholas; and his adored great-grandchildren, Luke, Cameron, Lauren, Emma K., Preston, Jaxson, Paislee, Kali, Harper, Sage, Emma A., and Zayne.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Mae Golden, and his siblings, James (Doc) Golden, Larry Golden, and Kay Hicks

A celebration of David's life will be held at Jackson Way Baptist Church on Saturday, August 22, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed b the service at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation in support of their inpatient hospice facility, which provided David with exceptional and compassionate care during the final days of his life. Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing David, "Pop," is now at home with the Lord he loved so dearly. His laughter, his kindness, and his boundless love will live on in all of us who were blessed to call him family.
