David Matthew Rumney, a loving father, devoted brother, and respected member of his community, passed away on March 31, 2025, in Harvest, Alabama, at the age of 50. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on July 31, 1974, to David A. Rumney and Rose Kinser Rumney (both deceased). Prior to divorce in 2023, David was married 23 years to Nicolette RIherd resulting in three children, Rebecca, Hannah, and Davey. David lived a life marked by a strong work ethic, a deep love for family, and a commitment to service.
David's professional career was a testament to his intellect and dedication. A highly accomplished aerospace engineer with a Master's Degree, he pursued his passion with unwavering commitment. Beyond his professional achievements, David's life was richly interwoven with community involvement and family. As a SCUBA diver, he volunteered for the Lynn County Sheriff's Department on the Search and Recovery team in Lynn County, Iowa. He also followed in his father's footsteps as a soccer referee, sharing his love of the sport with countless players, and continuing a family tradition that extended to his own children, Rebecca, Hannah, and Davey, who carry on his legacy on the field.
A devoted and loving father, David cherished his children above all else. His life revolved around their happiness and well-being. He is survived by his three beloved children, his brother Benjamin Rumney (Jeri), and nephews Dillon and Colin.
David's contributions extended beyond his immediate family. A respected member of Marion Lodge #6 A.F&A.M in Marion, Iowa, he was recognized for his commitment to the Masonic principles and was honored as Young Mason of the Year. He founded the 501c3 Cloth-A-Child that supplied children with new clothes and school supplies in Eastern Iowa for over 20 years.
David will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind, a testament to a life well-lived. A memorial service will be held on May 3, 2025 at 12 pm (visitation from 10am-12pm) at Asbury Harvest Church (8089 Wall Triana Hwy, Harvest AL 35749)
