Donald Leon "Duck" Hastings, age 73 of Woodville, Alabama, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Hospice Family Care in Huntsville, AL. He was born January 13, 1952, in Scottsboro, AL, to the late Homer and Dora Hastings.
Leon graduated from Woodville High School in 1970 and earned his BS from the University of Alabama in Biology. He was a lifelong fan of the Crimson Tide. In high school, Leon played basketball, making All-District/County teams. At the University, he met lifelong and loyal friends from all over the United States. He had a great sense of adventure and wanderlust, traveling the country, seeing national parks, art museums, theater productions, and friends. But he always returned to his beloved Nat Mountain roots. He had a profound impact on those around him and was always a loyal and reliable presence in the lives of those who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ollie and Mary Hastings, Myrtle & Rueben Sneed, parents Homer and Dora Hastings, nephew, Ryan O'Connor, and stepson Tyler Mecke.
He is survived by his loving wife, Angie Sanderson Hastings, sisters Patricia Hastings Conci (Bud), Beverly Hastings Burns (Lee) nieces and nephews, Caitlin Conci Flinkinger (Alan), Cole Conci (Elizabeth), Selea Burns Cooper (Michael), Zane Burns and Great nieces and nephews Clementine &Callahan Conci and Elliot Cooper, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and countless friends.
A celebration of Leon's life will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, July 20, 2025 in the Berryhill Funeral and Cremation Home in Huntsville, Al.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. until the time of service. Friends and family welcome guests at the Furniture Factory in Huntsville to share an remember the loss of our loved one.
