Donald Ray Sylvester's Obituary

Donald "Don" was born on February 25, 1954, in Huntsville, Alabama. Don began perfecting his craft at an early age, and leaves behind a lasting legacy not only in the family he helped create, or the lives he influenced, but also in the form of various projects, from schools and museums, to churches and civic buildings he constructed all over North Alabama. It is almost impossible to go 5 miles in any direction and not come across a building Don has left his mark on.

Don was the model husband, who every day for 52 years of marriage, exhibited his immense love for Terry. The two were inseparable in business as well as life. Whether running a business together, embarking on spur of the moment road trips to unknown destinations, or travelling the world, Don and Terry were always side by side.

Don has changed so many lives for the better. He showed his wife there is one true love. He showed his sons how to be fathers and husbands. He showed his daughter she would always have a fierce protector. Don was stern and disciplined. Even on his worst day, he wouldn't be outworked. He was a generous provider, always making sure his children and grandchildren were more than taken care of.

So many people have reached out since news spread of Don's passing. One word keeps being repeated: Respect. Everyone that knew Don, respected Don. He was a man's man, an old soul who still believed your word meant something, valued integrity, and hard work. He would do anything for anyone, always willing to help. He shared his talents, skills, knowledge, and abilities with anyone and everyone.

Don is survived by, his wife, Terry Campbell Sylvester, his children, Donald Sylvester "Junior", Chris and Helen "Beth" Sylvester, and Amy and Kane Bell; his grandchildren, Lauren and Christian Pierce, Lindsey and Travis Burchfield, Alexis Sylvester, Jason Sylvester, CJ Sylvester, Maria Sylvester, Elizabeth Sylvester, Jared Simons, Keanan Cartee, Haille Bell, and Cameron Bell; great grandchildren Liam Phillips, Carson Burchfield, Olivia Burchfield, and Emmet Burchfield; his siblings: Jolene Holman, Tommy "Bobo" and Linda Sylvester, Juanita and Rodney Baldwin; and many loved nieces, nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Curtis Sylvester, his mother, Katherine White Sylvester, and his siblings, Jack Sylvester, William "Buddy" Sylvester, James Sylvester, Dorothy Edwards, and Gary Sylvester.

Visitation will be held at Berryhill Funeral Home, 2305 Memorial Parkway NW, Huntsville, AL 35810, on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 from 12:00-2:00pm, with the service to immediately follow. Burial will be at Valhalla Funeral Home and Memory Gardens, 698 Winchester Rd NE, Huntsville, AL 35811.
