Donald Ray
Vaughan
January 15, 1951 – June 1, 2026
The Magnolia Room
4:00 - 6:00 pm (Central time)
Donald "Donny" Ray Vaughan of Decatur, Alabama, peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on June 1, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.
Donny lived a life full of laughter, friendship, music, and love. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and remarkable sense of humor, which stayed with him until his very last days. He embraced life wholeheartedly and found joy in playing the drums, tending to flowers, playing cards with friends, enjoying good food, and especially anything sweet. He also loved spending time on the water, where he enjoyed boating, making memories with family and friends, and soaking up every moment of fun. A loyal friend to many, Donny lived life to the fullest and never met a stranger.
Throughout his life, Donny wore many hats. He was the former owner of Subway and Vaughan Gas Company, and he also pursued careers as a music producer and manager, and chef. Whatever path he followed, he brought passion, creativity, and a genuine love for people. He was also a proud member of the Elks Lodge and served as a former Exalted Ruler, forming many lifelong friendships along the way.
Donny is survived by his daughter, Carrie Vaughan Montgomery; his loving companion, Linda Compton Turner; his brother, Bob Vaughan (Jane); his stepsons, Bryant Perry (Oksana) and Brandon Perry (Victoria); and his stepmother, Betty Vaughan.
He was a proud and devoted Grandpa to Madison Montgomery, Kaitlin Montgomery, Addison Perry, Drake Perry, Raelyn Perry, and Ronin Perry, all of whom brought him tremendous joy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jake Vaughan; his mother, Geneva Bridges Vaughan; and his beloved wife, Marlene Perry Vaughan.
Please save the date for a Celebration of Life honoring Donny on Saturday, July 18, from 4:00–6:00 PM at The Magnolia Room in Decatur, Alabama. We invite family and friends to come together to share stories, laughter, and special memories as we celebrate a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hands Across Decatur or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, organizations that were close to Donny's heart.
Donny loved big and was loved deeply in return. Though he will be greatly missed, his laughter, kindness, and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and in the memories they continue to share.
