Donna Demont Smith of Huntsville, AL passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026, at the age of eighty three.

Donna spent thirty three years as a school bus driver with the Madison County Schools system. She was affectionately known as “Miss Donna” by the staff and thousands of children she transported to and from school. Donna loved people, especially children. Her hobbies included gardening, beautifying her yard, traveling, and spending time with her family and many friends.

Donna was a member of Huntsville Christian Church. She loved Jesus and loved to tell people about Him.

Donna is survived by her loving family: her daughter Pam (Bill) Clark and her son Mike (Carol) Smith. Her six grandchildren, who knew her as Nana, Stephanie Mach, Tammy (Brandon) Guillory, Brian Byrd, Amanda Boice, Thomas Smith, and Zach (Kelly) Byrd; eight great grandchildren: Caitlyn (Will) Caudle, Dylan Mach, Haley Byrd, Alyssa Guillory, Penelope Byrd, Ollie Boice, Jameson Guillory and Sadie Stern; and two great, great grandchildren.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Lee Smith, her daughter Penny Renee Smith, and her special friend of twenty three years, John Shafer.

The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, July 15th, 5 - 7 PM at Berryhill Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you make a donation in Donna’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
