Dorrell Remone Benefield, 88, transitioned to Heaven suddenly on February 3, 2026. He was born to Coleman and Nina Benefield in Rainsvillle, Alabama on December  26, 1937. Serving his country in the Alabama National Guard, he served active Army for two years.  For 40 years he was a full time employee of Chambers Bottling Company (CocaCola) holding positions in sales, special events and machine repair.

An avid Auburn University fan, he enjoyed all athletics and anything Auburn.  He especially enjoyed watching his nieces and nephews play sports anywhere/anytime.  He loved his family and was always ready with a helping hand.

Locust Grove Baptist Church was a large part of his life where he served for 38 years. Dorrell accepted Jesus as a child.

Dorrell was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters: Ovelle, Irene Lusk, Hazel, and IdaLee Adcox.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years Marilyn Coots Benefield, his son Brian, brothers David and Wayne (Kaye) and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are David Benefield, Jr., Kelly Benefield , Larry W. Coots, Rodney Coots, Greg Coots, Daniel Atkins, Brody Coots, and Jay Puckett.  Honorary pallbearers are friends from his Life Group.

Visitation will be held at Locust Grove Baptist Church 171 County Lake Rd. New Market, Alabama 35671 on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 11:30 to 1:00 pm, immediately followed by the funeral service at 1:00 pm with  Marty Hogue, Robby White, and Keith Langner officiating.  A graveside service will follow at 3:45 pm at Greens Chapel Cemetery in Fyffe, Alabama.

The family suggests memorials to Locust Grove Church or to Essential Church, 801 Beirne Ave. , Huntsville, Alabama 35801.
