IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Douglas Earl
Penuel
April 6, 1946 – October 10, 2025
Douglas Earl Penuel, beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, passed away in Huntsville, AL on October 10, 2025. Born in Kinston, NC, to Furney and Swonnie Bell Penuel, Doug's journey was marked by devotion to family, country, and community.
Doug met the love of his life, Ronda Payton, while serving his country in the armed forces. After completing his service, the couple settled in Huntsville, where they raised their daughter Angie. A committed father and grandfather, Doug's greatest joy was his family—especially his grandchildren, Denton and Macie, who were cherished beyond measure.
After retiring from Golden Flake Snack Foods, Doug's tireless work ethic led him to a second career at Redstone Federal Credit Union, from which he retired in 2015. In his later years, Doug and Ronda became well-known as "the dynamic duo" in their pet-sitting business, delighting clients with their care and dedication.
Doug could often be found taking meticulous care of his pool and lawn and enjoyed assisting his daughter and son-in-law with rehabbing old homes. His passion for NASCAR and Alabama football ran deep. His kindness, dedication, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his mother Swonnie Bell Penuel, father Furney Penuel and brother Raymond Penuel. He is survived by his wife, Ronda; his daughter Angie and her husband Jerry of Marietta, GA; grandchildren Denton (fiancé Brie Holder) and Macie; sisters Joyce Fisher and husband Ray of Richlands, NC, Brenda Williams and husband James of Jacksonville, NC and Faye Irving and husband Donald of Wilmington, NC along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A life well-lived and a heart well-loved, Doug Penuel's legacy will continue through the family he treasured.
