Obituary

Edmund "Ed" Fahey, 88, of Madison, Alabama, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and devotion to those he loved.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Alicia Fahey. Together they shared 47 wonderful years. He is blessed with his daughter Natalie Fahey, son David Fahey, and his wife Donna, grandsons Thomas Fahey and Tyler Fahey, and his wife Laura, and two cherished great-granddaughters Nadia and Magnolia. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lou Fahey Caras. He also leaves many friends and extended family members.

Ed was born on March 8, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Grace Avery Fahey and Lieutenant Junior Grade (Lt. JG) E.E. Fahey, a U.S. Coast Guard officer. Ed graduated from Robert E. Fitch Senior High School in Groton, Connecticut. From a young age, Ed developed a deep curiosity for mechanical systems, a passion that shaped his remarkable career. After graduating from college, he worked as a mechanical engineer on nuclear submarine design at General Dynamics in Groton, Connecticut, contributing to critical advancements in naval technology. He later transitioned to the nuclear power industry, working on projects in the USA, Mexico, and the Philippines, where he played a key role in ensuring the safety and reliability of nuclear power plants. In his later years, he made significant contributions in Huntsville, Alabama, as a Quality Assurance Manager and Clean Room Supervisor for the sunshield of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).

Ed's interests extended beyond his professional and family life. As a private aviator, Ed explored the skies, flying to many places, including trips over Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, where he embraced adventure with the same enthusiasm he brought to his professional life. In later years, he flew radio-controlled airplanes and helicopters and was an active member of the Rocket City RC Club. Ed was very excited about the future of technology. His intellectual curiosity was reflected in all his conversations, where he focused on artificial intelligence, space technology, and what the next innovation might be. And this allowed him to be an avid and successful investor in technology.

Ed was a dear friend to many. His generosity, wisdom, and sense of humor made him a beloved figure in the lives of all who knew him. His ability to approach life with great enthusiasm, an unwavering curiosity, and a sense of humor left a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of sharing in his journey. Though he will be dearly missed, his legacy will live on in the lives of those he touched.
