Edward Taylor Johnson, affectionately known as Johnny, departed this life on July 4, 2026, in Huntsville, Alabama, just days shy of his 74th birthday. Born in Alabama on July 15, 1952, Edward’s journey through life was marked by devotion—to kin, to country, to the simple joys that made his spirit so easy to love and so difficult to let go.
His gentle humor, generous heart, and kindness left indelible marks on those privileged to know him. Whether gathered around the family table or by the serene banks of a favorite fishing spot, Edward could make laughter ripple as easily as water on a summer day. His eyes shone brightest when his family was near or when he was lost in the excitement of an Alabama football game, his cheers echoing from living rooms as warmly as from stadium stands.
Edward embraced service—as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps, he carried values of honor and loyalty not just in uniform but in every facet of his life. These were woven into his role as a father, brother, husband, and friend. His strength was quiet, his judgments fair, and his encouragement unwavering.
He is deeply mourned by his beloved children: Jason Johnson, Amber Johnson, and Demanda Clemons, each carrying forward their father’s devotion and wit. Surviving him also are his loving sisters: Patricia Henderson, Mary Nell James (Billy), Linda Hoy (Dennis), and Diane Allen (Gordon), whose lifelong bonds with Edward were both comfort and celebration through the years.
Edward is welcomed into eternity by those he held dearest but who preceded him in passing: his cherished wife, Sally Johnson; his adored daughter, Heather Michelle Johnson; his father, Raymon Lee Johnson; his mother, Mary Alice Johnson; and his brother, Bobby Lee Johnson. Their memories remain enshrined among those who knew the warmth of Edward’s embrace and the sound of his laughter.
Family gatherings and fishing trips, the shared smiles and secrets between siblings, and quiet moments spent resting in the afterglow of a well-fought Alabama win—these are legacies that endure. Edward’s was a life that exalted the everyday and illuminated the extraordinary within it. His loving, funny, kind nature suffused his world, gifting countless memories to the generations he leaves behind.
To honor his life and memory, visitation will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Berryhill Funeral Home & Crematory, 2305 Memorial Parkway NW, Huntsville, AL. A funeral service will follow in the chapel on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with Bro. James Campbell. Interment will follow at Green Valley Cemetery with Marine Corps honors, as a showing of appreciation for his service to his country.
Those who gather will share laughter, stories, and tears—a fitting tribute to a man whose presence brightened every room and whose memory will long light the paths of all who called him family and friend.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
