In Loving Memory of Edward I. Nicholas Jr.July 6, 1947 – October 14, 2026
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Edward I. Nicholas, an honorable first responder whose life was devoted to helping others.
He never stopped trying to be kind. One of his favorite sayings was “people are very quick to complain, but slow to say anything good.” He made it his mission to recognize the good people do by writing letters of appreciation to so many.
Beginning at just 18 years old, Dad answered the call to serve. Throughout his lifetime of work with search and rescue, the SARTEC K9 unit, HEMSI Search and Rescue, the NSS, the Coast Guard, and police and sheriff’s departments, he helped rescue countless people and brought hope to families during their most frightening moments.
His legacy lives on in the lives he saved, the people he helped, and the example of service he leaves behind. An extraordinary public servant, Edward I Nicholas Jr will be deeply missed and remembered with love, gratitude, and respect.
Edward is survived by his sons Andrew James Nicholas and Michael Allen Nicholas, his daughter, Deanna Lynne Nicholas, his grandchildren, Michael Edward Christian Nicholas , Nicholette Farrah Dicelli, Drewsilla Hazel Nicholas and Lincoln Oliver Nicholas, Andrew’s loving wife Stefany Nicholas, Edward's sister Anne Nicholas Reisser, his nieces and nephews Richard Kendrick Reisser , Christy Reisser Flint and William Craig Reisser, and many great nieces, and nephews.
His son Andrew, his nephew, Richard, and his daughter Deanna all follow in his footsteps of rescue, leaving a legacy of rescuers and EMTs to continue helping their communities.
Rest peacefully, Dad. A lifetime given to others will never be forgotten.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 18th from 3:00 - 5:00 PM at Berryhill Funeral Home.
