June 13, 1943 – November 3, 2022
Esther Eileen Bowen Harris a dedicated wife and mother of four, and a loving friend of many – passed away peacefully at home on November 3 rd , 2022 at the age of 79 in Madison, Alabama.
Esther was born to Ray and Natalie Bowen in Antrim, Michigan. She met and Married LeRoy F. Harris in 1970 in Belair, Michigan. Soon after that Esther became an Army spouse as LeRoy was enlisted into the Army as an officer at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. After their Army stint they together began a journey across the country culminating in Madison, AL.
Esther received her Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Degree while attending the University of Tennessee and received her Registered Nursing (RN) Degree from Dalton State College in Georgia. As such she spent the next 45 years working together with the love of her life, her husband (Dr. LeRoy "Roy" Harris) building and managing a successful Infectious Disease practice in Huntsville, Alabama.
Through the years Esther was known by many names: mom and grandma, wife, taxi driver, disciplinarian, boss, nurse, landlord, comedian, handy-woman, painter, seamstress, leader, chef, and most of all Loving and caring friend!
Through the years, Esther enjoyed traveling, making rum cakes, singing in the church choir, Volunteering for many causes including American Cancer Society and The American Heart Association and especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and brothers and sisters (Lloyd, Nancy, Gary, Phyllis and Audrey).
She is survived by her children Tammy Bourgeois, Jeff Alexander, Robert "Rob" Harris and Abigail Lenzner and has eight Grandchildren and four Great Grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 11, 2022, from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm. A memorial service for Mrs. Harris will follow in the the chapel at Berryhill Funeral Home at 4:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Saint Jude Children's Hospital ( https://www.stjude.org/ ) and the Huntsville Human Society ( https://ghhs.org ).
