Flonell Morton Burkholder

Flonell Morton Burkholder, 87, peacefully passed away at home on August 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on September 27, 1938, in Boaz, Alabama, Flo was the daughter of Verbon Morton and Carrie Works Morton. On March 7, 1958, she married the love of her life, Coyle Ray Burkholder Jr., beginning a marriage that would span more than six decades and serve as the foundation of the family she cherished above all else.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Coyle Ray Burkholder Jr.; her parents, Verbon and Carrie Morton; and her brothers, Bobby Morton, Jim Morton, and Roger Morton.

She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Cyndi Burkholder Torres and Terri Burkholder Atwell (Brett); her granddaughters, Anna Torres, Kenna Shepperson (Justin), and Maddie Pitt; her treasured great-grandchildren, Lilly Shepperson, Mae Shepperson, and Everett Shepperson; as well as many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were made brighter by knowing her.

Flo was the owner and founder of Flo Burkholder Realty, proudly building what became North Alabama’s longest-standing woman-owned independent real estate brokerage. Through hard work, integrity, and unwavering dedication, she earned the respect of colleagues, clients, and her community.

While her professional accomplishments were remarkable, nothing brought her greater pride than her family. Her daughters, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren were the greatest joys of her life and the legacy she treasured most.

Those who knew Flo will remember her as the kindest, funniest, and most selfless person they had ever met. She had a way of making everyone feel loved, welcomed, and important. Her strength was quiet, her generosity endless, and she carried herself with grace through every season of life. To those who loved her, she was the very definition of elegance, devotion, and unconditional love.

A devoted Christian and faithful member of Epworth Methodist Church, Flo lived her faith through the way she cared for others—with compassion, humility, and a servant’s heart.

Her family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to her devoted caregivers—Kristeena Spain, Letrecia Matthews, Sheila Holyfield, Georgia Vaughn, and many others—for the extraordinary love, compassion, and dignity they showed Flo. Their care became a blessing to both her and the entire family, and they will always hold a special place in their hearts. The family also extends heartfelt thanks to their special family friend, Denita Stinnett, for her unwavering love, support, and friendship throughout this journey.

She taught us everything, except how to live without her.

Visitation will be at Berryhill Funeral Home Friday August 7th, 2026 from 12:00pm - 2:00pm, followed by Chapel Service at 2:00pm. Private burial to follow.
