Francis Leo Guza's Obituary

Frank Guza left us peacefully, on March 17, 2019, at his home, surrounded by loved ones. He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Leona, his brother Tom, sister Judy, and granddaughter Lauren Guza. He's also preceded in death by former spouses: Bettie Guza (mother of Linda, Tom, and David), Barbara Williams (mother of Tab, Melissa and Roger), and Pamela Guza (mother of Katherine, and Nathan).

Frank is survived by all 5 children; Linda Lundy, Tom Guza, David Guza, Katherine Guza, and Nathan Guza  3 children by marriage Mayor Tab Bowling, Melissa Ingram and Roger Williams; 3 grandchildren; Christy Hotchkiss, Ryan Guza, and Mathew Lundy, Era Young; and 6 great grandchildren; (Haley, Jacey, Abrianna, Harlan, Aria, William) and a host of other family and countless friends.

Born in the summer of 1935, in Flint, Michigan, Frank started his life's journey. He graduated from Catholic Central High School in Grand Rapids, lettering in track as a long distance runner. A large part of his childhood and teen years were spent working in his family's restaurants. After high school, he worked at the Ford Motor Company, where he earned an undergraduate degree in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Michigan. Frank took that degree to the Boeing Company, where he worked for 18 years, most notably on the S-1C stage of the Saturn V rocket, moving him from Michigan to Seattle, Washington to New Orleans, Louisiana, until ultimately settling in Huntsville, Alabama for good in 1962. He continued his education in graduate studies at the University of Alabama, Huntsville.

After Boeing, he joined Meadlock and Shansman (M&S Computing) where he worked for many years, during which time, M&S Computing became Intergraph.

After Intergraph, Frank settled in to semi-retirement, where he enjoyed time with family, opening/operating a health food store for a short time, and in his later years, taking up tutoring.

Frank was a voracious reader, loved the outdoors and stayed very active with daily long-distance walks, even into his 80s. Over the years he had a wide range of interests; former member of the Huntsville Chess Club (earning the rank of Master), tennis (playing for the Huntsville Industrial Tennis League for many years), camping, hiking/walking, reading, playing pool, photography, and watching his favorite teams -  the Auburn Tigers and Michigan Wolverines. He also had an excellent memory and cherished the time spent with friends and family playing board games of all kinds  – against anyone who was brave enough to compete! Frank was also involved with caring for several foster children during his first marriage to Bettie and served as a loving father figure and teacher to countless others over the years.
