IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Franklin Delano
Roosevelt Tackett
September 26, 1934 – February 20, 2026
Franklin Delano Roosevelt Tackett (Opa), 91, was reunited in Heaven with his wife, Friedel, on February 20, 2026.
Frank was born on September 26, 1934 in Marting, West Virginia. He was the beloved son of Ferdinand and Ida Belle Tackett. He proudly served in the military for 22 years. While stationed in Germany, he met his wife, Friedel, and married on November 18, 1960. He retired in 1974 as Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3) and settled with Friedel in Huntsville, Alabama where they raised three daughters. After his retirement from the U.S. Army, Frank worked 17 years on Redstone Arsenal, Alabama as a government civil servant supporting the Pershing and Hawk II missile systems.
He was a member of Jackson Way Baptist Church and former member (and deacon) of Heritage Baptist Church, where he was baptized in 1978.
Frank was a loving husband, father, grandfather "Opa" and great-grandfather. He loved golf and spent his latter years watching the birds from his kitchen window; the doves and cardinals were his favorites.
Frank was also a steadfast servant of God. Even in his sunset years, he shared his faith with anyone willing to listen. One of his favorite Bible verses was I John 4:4 "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world." There wasn't anyone who was a stranger to him - he was everyone's "Opa". He will forever be loved and dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughters: Denise (and her partner Judith Witten) Tackett of Toney, AL, Margaretha (Rob) Little of Madison, AL, and Susan (Kevin) Caldwell of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren: Christopher (Caroline) Little of Schertz, TX, Joshua (and his fiancé Samantha Patten) of Laramie, WY, Thomas Little of Madison, AL, Anthony (Alissa) Brown, Jr. of Jewett, TX, and Kristen (Tony) Roberts of Toney, AL; and three great-grandchildren: Peyton, Riley and Jasper Roberts.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Friedel Tackett; son, Franklin D. R. Tackett, Jr.; brothers William J. Tackett, Bert H. Tackett, Ferdinand Tackett, Jr., John B. Tackett, and Raymond P. Tackett; and sisters Marjorie E. Young, Mary K. Pettit, and Irene Rogers.
Our family would like to thank J'Marcus Dobbins, his caregiver, fellow believer, and friend for the tender care, companionship and friendship given to dad in his final days with us."
