With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Frederick D. Chase, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, on June 18, 2026, just a few days before his 84th birthday. Frederick left this world peacefully at Huntsville Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on June 26, 1942, in Saint Clair, Michigan, Frederick was the cherished son of the late Frederick D. Chase Sr. and Alean (Parent) Chase. He was a quiet man who was well-liked and respected. Frederick was pre-deceased by his granddaughter, Christina Chase, and his siblings: Sandy Lawrence, Gloria Chase, and Paula Chase, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He has one remaining sister, DeeDee Paitt.

Frederick’s journey was one of service and devotion. He enlisted in 1963 and dedicated 21 years to the United States Army, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class. Frederick received many honors during active duty, including the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, Missileman Vietnam Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon. His awards included the Sharpshooter Badge for M16 & M14 and the Expert Badge for M14.

His military career was marked by three tours in Vietnam and multiple tours in South Korea as a Hawk Radar Missile expert. Additional tours included Detroit Arsenal, Michigan, Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, Ft. Huachuca, Arizona, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, Germany, and Letterkenny, Pennsylvania. His final tour was at Redstone Arsenal, where he retired from active service in 1984. Frederick also worked for 31 years as Lead Electronic Technician for SCI/Sanmina and earned his Associate Degree in Computer Science in 1988.

During his first tour in South Korea, Frederick met the love of his life, Myong Chase, and proposed marriage within a month. Together, they built a life filled with love and sacrifice to raise four accomplished children: Woomi, Alean, Fred III, and Albert. His legacy further extends to his grandchildren, Christina, Jessica, Freddy IV, John Paul, and his great-grandson, Camren. Frederick’s family was his pride and joy, and he loved teaching them the value of hard work and togetherness.

Frederick was a man of many talents and interests. As the patriarch, he taught his daughters to be self-sufficient and his sons to be good providers. Frederick loved sharing stories—both out loud and through photos—about his family and adventures. His stories reflected the love of his family, his fondness for travel, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson. Frederick was also a talented carpenter. He and his sons built the family home in Meridianville.

His life will be celebrated on his birthday, June 26, 2026. His kindness, humor, and generosity will be remembered and cherished by all who were fortunate to know him. The memories he created and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Rest in peace, dear Frederick. Your memory will live on in our hearts, and you will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be held at Berryhill Funeral Home, 2305 N. Memorial Parkway, Huntsville, AL 35810, on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Service with Military Honors is from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
