Obituary

George was born on December 28, 1941 in Karachi, India (now Pakistan), while under the British flag and in a military hospital. He died at his home on February 7, 2020.

George enlisted in the British Army on February 28, 1958, after serving in the Boys' Junior Band of the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry Regiment. His military service continued for the next 31 years and 115 days, and he earned the General Service Medal, with clasps for Northern Ireland, the Malay Peninsula, and Borneo. He had a successful and full career in the regimental band, reaching the rank of Warrant Officer (WO2 – Band Sergeant Major). He received additional appointments in recognition of long, loyal, and exemplary service of a particularly good standard. His military service included tours of duty in the United Kingdom, West Germany, Singapore, Brunei, Berlin, and Northern Ireland.

After George retired from the British military, he came to visit the United States, went back to the United Kingdom for approximately four weeks, and then returned here, never wanting to permanently leave again. He held several jobs before he completely retired, including Uptown Gallery, Teledyne Brown Engineering, and SCI.

George was preceded in death by his mother, Norah Ryan Allan, his father, George Henry Allan, his brother, Patrick "Paddy" Ryan and his sister Maureen Naughton. He is survived by his daughter, Andrea Carroll, with granddaughters Jasmine and Chelsea, daughter Michelle Allan, with grandsons Callum Fitchett and Bailey Fitchett, and Aden Allan, and Maureen's children Tracey Whitaker, Maria Naughton, Gerry Petts and Joanne Young. He is also survived by his brother, John Allan, and his sister, Norah Bates.

George never met a stranger and was full of life and fun. He could fill any day with sunshine with his attempts to cheer up anyone who needed it. His favorite hobby was playing darts with his friends, and his previous favorite was field hockey, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
