Gypsy Lee Mahaffey, 79 of Huntsville, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
She was a retired Dispatch Sargent at Huntsville Police Department, where she served her community for 27 years. She retired in 1997, to become "Nanny" full-time. She loved keeping her grandchildren and later, her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed the outdoors where she spent many days at the family hunting cabin. She served the Lord and her church by singing in the church choir and teaching Sunday school.
Gypsy, be-lovingly known as Nanny, lived a life to serve and help others. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She always sought to keep God first and loved the Lord with all her heart. She touched the lives of many with her kindness and nurturing spirit, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
She is survived by two sons and daughters: Duane Mahaffey (Yvette) and Jimmy Mahaffey (Tammy); six grandchildren: Tyler and Kasey Mahaffey, Troy and Gabby Mahaffey, Haley and Willie Callahan; four great grandsons, Lucas, Cade, River and Owen; one sister, Joann Tate (Butch) one brother, Bob Balch (Cindy) and a host of family and friends that she held dear to her heart.
Gypsy is preceded in death by her loving husband, Bobby Louis Mahaffey of 56 years; father, Shelby Balch; mother, Sarah Balch; father-in-law, Carl Ed Mahaffey; mother-in-law, Margaret Mahaffey.
Visitation is Saturday, April 12th, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Berryhill Funeral Home, with a service taking place the following day, Sunday, April 13th, beginning at 11:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Jason Martin and Rev. Bubba Parton. Burial will be in Pleasmont Cemetery.
