Obituary

Mr. Howard Douglas "Doug" Berryhill, age 75, passed away on August 7, 2025, in Huntsville, Alabama. Born on February 18, 1950, in Decatur, Alabama, Doug lived a life marked by service, adventure, and an unwavering zest for life.

Doug's career was as diverse and dynamic as the man himself. He began his professional journey as a fireman and later served as a deputy with the Madison County Sheriff's Department in Alabama. His dedication to public service culminated in a long and distinguished tenure as a civil servant with the United States Department of the Army at Redstone Arsenal. After decades of committed work supporting national defense efforts, Doug retired on November 17, 2020. His contributions left a lasting impact on those he worked alongside and the community he served.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Doug was known for his boundless energy and wide-ranging passions. A true jack of all trades who never met a stranger, he embraced life with open arms and an open heart. He was a proud motorcycle enthusiast with a particular love for Harley-Davidson bikes—often seen cruising the roads with unmistakable style and spirit.

Howard also found peace and joy on the water as an avid captain of personal leisure boats. Whether navigating local waterways or simply relaxing onboard with family and friends, boating was one of his favorite pastimes. His interests didn't stop there—he was also a licensed ham radio operator and considered an expert in related fields, always eager to share his knowledge or strike up a conversation over the airwaves.

A passionate auto collector and builder, Howard  had a special affinity for race cars and vintage classics. He not only restored these vehicles but also raced them locally—a testament to his hands-on skill and fearless enthusiasm. His collection became well-known among fellow enthusiasts who admired both his craftsmanship and dedication.

Howard's  legacy lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his daughters Kimberly Berryhill, Susan Berryhill, and Paige Berryhill; grandchildren Chase D. Berryhill and Trinity Ayana Gray (daughter of Susan), Ryland, Paula, Isabella, and Cecilia (children of Nicole Berryhill), as well as Brenna Jade Bell, Bryan Mikle Fanning, and Jeremy Haller Edwards II (children of Paige). He is also survived by great-grandchildren Aaliyah (granddaughter of Susan) and Bryken (grandson of Paige).

He was preceded in death by his father Howard Benjamin Berryhill; his mother Lena Mae Berryhill (Sims); and his beloved wife, Sandra Jean Lawrence, as well as his loving  daughter Nicole Leigh Berryhill.

Howard Douglas "Doug" Berryhill was truly multifaceted—each person who knew him experienced a unique version of him that left an indelible mark. Whether through laughter shared during boat rides or stories exchanged over engines or airwaves, Doug created memories that will be cherished forever.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who remember him.
