Howard Edward
Echols, JR.
Jan 19, 1951 — Sep 11, 2026
Meridianville
Howard Edward Echols, Jr. left this world for Heaven on September 11, 2026, after a lengthy illness, at the age of 75. He was born on January 19, 1951. Eddie is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sandra; his daughter, Shannon Echols Jackson and her husband, John; his grandchildren, Ella Kaye, Audrey Cate, and Grey Thomas Jackson; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Imogene Hillis Echols, and his siblings, Sherry Echols, Kathy Gower, and Richard Echols.
Howard E. “Eddie” Echols, Jr. was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His grandchildren and their friends lovingly called him “Peeps.”
One of the greatest joys of his life was the birth of his daughter, Shannon. Watching her grow into the woman she is today and becoming a grandfather to Ella Kaye, Audrey Cate, and Grey Thomas gave him some of his happiest moments.
Peeps loved his family deeply. He was a man of faith who enjoyed Alabama “Roll Tide” sports of all kinds, especially baseball and the Atlanta Braves. He also loved to travel, but more than anything, he loved spending time with his family.
He was a faithful member of the Meridianville Church of Christ for many years. He graduated from Lee High School in Huntsville, then spent two years at Columbia State in Tennessee and one year at Jacksonville State. He was a talented baseball player and, after being drafted three times, finally signed with the Chicago White Sox. His baseball career was cut short by an injury. He worked at Dunlop Tire and retired after 27 years of service.
Eddie had a wonderful sense of humor and a kind spirit. He was dedicated to his family, worked hard, and deeply loved the Lord. He will be greatly missed by so many.
