MAJ (Ret.) Hunter Benjamin Matthews Jr, aged 72, passed away peacefully at UAB June 13, 2025. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 2, 1953.

Hunter is survived by his wife Camilla Matthews, children: Sarah Matthews, Gretchen Matthews and Hunter "Trey" Benjamin Matthews III (Allison), and grandchildren: Benjamin Dey, Gavin Elmore, Jesse Skurupey, Jackson, Cassidy, Aiden and Emerson Matthews.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and United States Army and retired at the rank of Major after 26 years of service in 2000. He was also a Vietnam Veteran. Mr. Matthews had a PhD in Engineering, currently worked for Canvas LLC and was retired from Raytheon. During his life he served as a Police Officer in Cincinnati, Ohio, a 32nd degree Mason and a highly accomplished gunsmith.

Visitation will be from 11 AM -1 PM on Tuesday, June 17th  at Berryhill Funeral Home with memorial service following in the Chapel. Bro. George Naylor and Bro. Doug Simon will be officiating.  Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.

Camilla requests everyone wear Blue for Hunter.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Gary Sinise Foundation, American Legion or Honor Flight.
