IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jackie Laughlin
Hall
April 1, 1931 – December 13, 2025
Jackie Laughlin Hall went to be with his Savior on Saturday, December 13th. He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Ursula Elisabeth Hall, who passed 36 days prior to his passing.
He is survived by a daughter Linda Susanna Poolos (husband Gary), a daughter Patricia Elisabeth Conley (husband William), a son Kenneth David Hall (wife Cecilia) and a daughter Sharon Ursula Dickman (husband Leroy).
Mr. Hall has five grandchildren, Mark D. Poolos, Matthew D. Hall (fiancé Rachel), Michael D. Hall (wife Jacque) Jennifer A. Allison (husband Steven) Dr. William Roy Dickman II (wife Tabitha), Brandon S. Conley (wife Olivia) and Grace McKenna Dickman.
His 12 great grandchildren are Levi; Jack and Lily; Charlotte, Isaac, Margaret and Lucy; twins Keelee and Kinlee; Sydney, Nora and Harvey.
Jackie was born to William Elzy and Cora Pearl Laughlin Hall on April 1, 1931 in Fairmont, West Virginia. He had five brothers; Kenneth, Robert Eugene, Charles, Robert Lee and William Elzy Jr. (who died in the Battle of the Bulge in 1945 and was awarded the Purple Heart.) Jackie had three sisters; Madalyn, Helen, and Kathleen, all of whom are deceased.
Jackie's mother tragically died when he was just twelve years old. He went to live with his oldest brother, Kenneth who was a coal miner in Shinnston, West Virginia. Jackie enlisted in the US Army at age 17 and served overseas during WWII in Berlin, Germany.
Mr. Hall was one of the guards on the American side of the Berlin Wall and he was part of the Berlin Airlift of 1949. During that time of service, he met the love of his life, Ursula Aust, a German girl who was working in the US Army Mess Hall. They later married in Regensburg, Germany and he brought her back to the United States as his "war bride".
Some years later, he served overseas in Korea for 13 months. Mr. Hall had a total of 20 years of honorable service in the Army. He retired at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama in 1968.
After he retired from the military, Jackie went to work as an electrical machinist at PPG Industries Aerospace Division in Huntsville where they produced windshields for various aircraft including the Boeing 707. He loved working with his hands and was very proud of the work he did at PPG. He retired after 20+ years there with honors.
Jackie was an avid Bluegrass and Country Music fan all his life. He was a gifted singer, songwriter, and guitarist in his own right and recorded two songs at a local Huntsville recording studio in the 60's. In his later years, he played his guitar and sang during worship at his small local church on Penny Street in Huntsville. Jackie was a storyteller at heart and was especially good at entertaining his four children with his many imaginative story characters. He raised his four children in the admonition of the LORD and left us a legacy of faith in the Savior he so dearly loved. A gentle and humble man who came from humble beginnings, he stayed that way his entire life. He loved his country, his beloved West Virginia, his dear wife, Ursula, and his entire family. A blessing to so many he was.
The family would like to thank Berryhill Funeral Home for taking such good care of us in our time of bereavement.
