Obituary

James Baker, 64, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on January 5, 2026. He was born in Red Bank, New Jersey.

James was a United States Navy veteran, serving from 1978 to 1982 as a cook aboard the USS Seattle (AOE-3). James earned Shellback status according to true Naval tradition. After his military service, he worked primarily in the food service industry and occasionally used his skills to support the homeless community. A life-long learner and avid reader, James valued knowledge, service, and quiet generosity.

He is survived by his sister, Wendy Baker McCulley; his nephews, Adam and Aaron Reeves; and his brother, William Baker Jr. (Cindy). He was preceded in death by his parents, Rochelle Baker and William Baker Sr. James was unmarried and had no children.

A memorial service is being planned; details will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite charity.
