James H. "Buddy" Garrett, 86, of Limestone County passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Decatur General Hospital. Mr. Garrett was a lifelong resident, farmer in Limestone County and member of the Belle Mina United Methodist Church. Mr. Garrett was a veteran of the Army Air Corp during World War II. After graduating from Auburn he returned to the family farm and became the fourth generation to farm the land that his great-great grandfather purchased from the U.S. Government in the early nineteenth century. Mr. Garrett's father was one of the founders of the Limestone Farmers Co-op in 1932. Mr. Garrett was the President of the gin at the Limestone Co-op. Mr. Garrett is preceded in death by his parents Peter and Elizabeth Garrett, his wife Betty Hulse Garrett, two sons Tom and Jim Garrett and his brother Ed Garrett. Mr. Garrett is survived by his granddaughter Beth Garrett, daughter-in-law Donna Compton Garrett and two nephews Johnny and Pete Garrett.
Funeral service will be Friday, December 21, 2012 1:00 pm at the Belle Mina United Methodist Church with Reverend Vicki Tonini officiating. Burial will follow at Athens City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Berryhill Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Pallbearers will be Cody Hill, W.K. Cole, George Stovall, Cal Chapman, Bill Webster and Lowell Sanderson.
