Obituary

A beloved father, James "Jim" Louis Costello, 67, traded in his iconic earthly Converse for heavenly ones. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 21, 2025 after one final sleepover with his daughters by his side. Jim was born November 19, 1957 in East Orange, NJ to James and Mary Costello. Jim spent his younger years living in New York and Rhode Island before moving with his "ma" to Alabama. He is survived by his daughters Amie Costello, Samantha Fox (Taylor), and Amanda Rocha (Rafael), and five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, sister (Julie), two aunts (Puz, Dot), and a grumpy uncle (Bill).

Jim was a man who valued experiences and music. He was always ready for any road trip or concert. He loved sharing stories of trips to Aunt Dot's house, his family's horseradish business, going to the top of the Twin Towers, many vacations, dancing on a broadway stage, visiting the field where Woodstock was held, watching the ball drop in Times Square, seeing the Boston Pops perform the Opening Day Ceremony at Fenway Park, countless concerts, numerous band trips, or giving free hugs for hours in Union Square.

He loved his daughters and would brag about them to anyone who would listen. He would do anything for them even if it meant watching a Barney live show a dozen times, constantly reminding them his names is only one syllable- not two, spending a week's salary on Hanson tickets, standing in line at midnight for the newest Harry Potter book, or treating their friends as if they were his own kids.

Jim fought a long battle with end stage renal disease. Despite many health challenges and setbacks, he never gave up and kept fighting until the end. His family wishes to extend their fullest gratitude to his wonderful medical team including the staff at Fresenius Dialysis, Dr. Heather Haley, Dr. Jorge Diaz, and Dr. Benjamin Fail.

Services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 3rd at 7PM with the family receiving visitors starting at 5pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church or The American Kidney Foundation.

Jim was a wonderful dad, a loyal friend, a lifelong hippie, and the heart of so many stories we'll keep telling. We love you.
