IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Arthur
Creasy
March 17, 1947 – June 12, 2025
The Reverend James Arthur Creasy passed away on June 12, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. Born March 17, 1947, in Florence, Alabama, Jim was the eldest child of James and Nancy Creasy of Florence, Alabama. After attending Florence City Schools and graduating from Coffee High School, Jim earned a BA from Florence State University (now UNA).
With a low two-digit draft number, the United States Army came calling. As a proud conscientious objector, Jim served in a non-combatant role as a medic. He excelled as a Dental Hygienist, serving at FT Dix, New Jersey. At FT Dix, he met and married Charleen Forman.
After Jim completed his military service, the couple moved to Pennsylvania, where he attended the Philadelphia Divinity School. The school later merged with Cambridge, Massachusetts, theological school, becoming the Episcopal Divinity School. They left Cambridge and served the following communities over the next three and a half decades: Florence, AL; Prattville, AL; Guam, UST; Griffin, GA; Miami, FL; Marion, VA; Bedford, VA; and Opelika, AL.
Reverend Creasy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his former wife, Charleen Forman Creasy; daughter, Jennifer Creasy Peuler (husband, Christopher Peuler); Briar Smith (father, Michael Smith); Avery Smith (father, Michael); sister, Denise Graham (Marcellus); sister, Donica Creasy; and brother, Daniel 'Danny' Creasy (Karen).
Perhaps his sister Denise's heartfelt comments best describe James Arthur Creasy:
"He taught me to drive with such kindness and patience. He was also smart, taking challenging courses in high school like physics, calculus, and chemistry, and then passing his textbooks to me. Those books were expensive back then, so I appreciated them very much. He also won the Bausch and Lomb Science Award in his senior year. I always thought he would become an engineer or something scientific, but God had other plans for him."
And so, he did.
His family greatly appreciates Floyd E Tut Fann Veterans Home's compassionate care over the last few years.
The family has arranged a private funeral service, and in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society.
Many will miss Father Creasy.
