IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Floyd
Smith
May 28, 1932 – September 16, 2025
James Floyd "Jack" Smith, 93, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully from this life into eternal life with his Lord on September 16, 2025. Mr. Smith was born May 28, 1932, in Jackson County, Alabama. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a member of First Baptist Church Meridianville.
After school, Jack worked at the local Studebaker dealership, where he became skilled at rebuilding motors. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War, having been drafted to serve in the Army. Following his discharge, he attended trade school to study TV and radio repair. His aptitude for instrumentation led to a position with Brown Engineering, where he spent many hours climbing into the aft end of Saturn rockets to work on fire suppression systems. After leaving Brown Engineering, Jack worked in several different positions before finding an excellent opportunity as an instrumentation mechanic with TVA at Widow's Creek Power Plant. Upon retiring from TVA, he used his mechanical abilities to stay busy repairing and restoring small tractors and equipment for resale.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Smith and Bessie Moon Smith; his wife, Dorothy Carlisle Smith; and his brothers, Andrew Smith and Noland Fletcher Smith Sr. He is survived by his wife, Shelby Jean Smith; son, James Carlisle Smith (Jerilyn); daughter, Melissa Diane Wampler; stepchildren, Glenda Hubbard (Frankie), Melissa Steele, Jennifer Myers, and Silas Glen Miller Jr. (Sharon); siblings, Aline Skelton, Cranford Smith (Sharon), and Jimmy Ruth Rousseau; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 18th, at Berryhill Funeral Home from 12:00-2:00 PM, with the funeral service immediately following. Burial will be at Gurley Cemetery.
