It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James E. (Jim) Raby, age 87, who passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025. Jim was born on July 15, 1937, in Toney, AL, and remained a lifelong resident of Harvest, AL, where he was known for his unwavering dedication to both family and community.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lorraine Raby; sons Al Raby (Tracy) and Ron Raby (Kathy); three sisters, Octa Watson, Nell Haltom, and Ann Steele; and four cherished grandchildren, Emma Raby, Sarah Raby, Brooks Raby, and Jordan Waldrop. He was preceded in death by his parents, H. E. and Mildred Raby, and a brother, W. E. Raby.
A proud Army veteran, Jim served his country faithfully after high school and later became a charter member of NASA. Over the course of his 42-year career, he made significant contributions to the space program, helping to achieve the monumental feat of putting men on the moon. Jim's commitment to his work and his country was a testament to his strong sense of duty and patriotism.
