James Richard Rogers, lovingly known as Richard, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 8, 2025, in Huntsville, Alabama. He was 85 years old.

Richard was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose steady presence and generous heart shaped the lives of everyone who knew him. He was the beloved husband of Judy Rogers, and together they built a strong and loving family. He is survived by his daughter Amy Smoot (Martin), his son James R. "Chip" Rogers II (Kara), and his cherished grandchildren: Ashlyn Smith, Avery Smith, Cameron Rogers, and John Riley Rogers.

Richard earned his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Alabama and spent over 30 years as an aerospace engineer at Teledyne Brown Engineering, where his work and dedication made a lasting impact. He was a proud supporter of Alabama football—always cheering on the Crimson Tide—as well as an avid outdoorsman who loved golfing, fishing, and hunting.

Beyond his professional accomplishments and personal passions, Richard had a deep commitment to helping others, especially those on the journey of recovery from addiction. He offered support, encouragement, and hope to many, and his compassion touched countless lives.

He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his unwavering integrity, and his deep love for his family and community.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his honor at R.O.S.S.  Alcoholics Anonymous  Partnership for a Drug Free Community or Not One More Alabama. The family deeply appreciates the outpouring of love and support during this time.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 12th from 10:00 AM - 12:00 pm Berryhill Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 1:30 PM at Tri Cities Memorial Gardens in Florence.
