IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janet Hewlett
Younger
April 16, 1941 – January 18, 2026
Janet Hewlett Younger, April 16, 1941, January 18, 2026, Age 84.
God needed another angel in heaven and called Janet home January 18, 2026, at 2:18 AM. Janet had been surrounded all day by family and friends. She had multiple health issues she had been battling over the past 10 years. God has now made her whole again.
Janet was a twin. Her twin sister, Joan Whalen, passed away in April 2009. Also, preceding Janet were her Mother, Myrtle Payne Hewlett and Father, Thomas Edwin Hewlett. Janet is succeeded by her Loving Husband Henry Nimitz Younger, Son Charles Edwin Younger (Pam), Daughter Carmen Younger Sloan (Kenny) and Grandson Cannon Younger Sloan.
Janet grew up and lived her whole life in the Gurley. She attended Madison County High School, graduating in 1959. She loved her classmates and kept in touch with many of them through reunions and lifelong friendships. After graduation, she worked at Redstone Arsenal until 1965 when Charles was born. Janet devoted her life at home to raising her family. Her family was her priority, and she loved them deeply throughout her life. After her kids had left home, she returned to work at SAMD on Redstone making special friends there. She retired from Redstone to finish out her life and enjoying hobbies like Scrapbooking and spending time with her Grandson and family. Janet loved her home, Family and Friends where she was always loved and cherished. Janet had a lifelong friend in Joan Drake, spending much time together while they both raised their own families. In later times Janet reconnected with lifelong friends Shirley Miller and Daughter Diana, Faye Gibbs and Nancy Chandler. They shared several days having outings and lunches while talking about the good "old days". Janet loved them deeply. Janet lived a loving life and enjoyed every moment with family and friends. The last year brought even more Friends through Caregivers, Dimple Patterson, Carolyn Putman and Kathy Sisk, that grew to Love her as well.
Henry would also like to give special thanks and love to Janet's Caregivers who not only helped Janet but him as well. The family also would like to thank all the wonderful nurses and help of Hospice of North Alabama for the loving care and support.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23rd, from 12:00-1:00 PM at Gurley Methodist Church, with a funeral service immediately following. Burial will take place at Gurley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Gurley Methodist Church in Janet's memory.
