Obituary

Jeannie Ann Fanning Williams, a cherished wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, went to be with Jesus on August 3, 2024, at the age of 44. Born on January 12, 1980, to Vickie Winkles Gray and William "Bill" Fanning, Jeannie was a lifelong resident of Madison County, Alabama. She grew up in Gurley and returned as an adult with her husband to raise their son in the little town she held so dear.

Jeannie was preceded in death by her grandparents and her father. She is survived by her devoted husband of 22 years, Franklin, and their beloved son, Chase; her mom, Vickie (Michael), her stepfather Emmett "Pat" Gray III and siblings, Patrick (Haleigh), Nick (Amanda), Heather, Andrea, and Christa. Jeannie was also a treasured aunt, known as "Aunt Jen Jen" to many nieces and nephews who adored her.

Jeannie began her distinguished career with the U.S. Government in 1997 as a contractor and in 2010,  transitioned to a government civilian role, where she spent the next 12 years proudly serving the U.S. Army in various capacities. Most recently, she served as the Deputy Product Director for PM Apache, where her sharp intellect, exceptional leadership, and deep care for her team were well known. In 2020, Jeannie earned her Masters of Science in Systems Engineering Management from the Naval Postgraduate School, further solidifying her commitment to excellence.

But she was more than her career and accomplishments, as great as they were. Jeannie lived life well, and her presence was felt the moment she entered a room, whether through hearing her distinctive country drawl or seeing her bright, welcoming smile. She had a deep love for flowers, books, traveling, and the beach—especially when paired with a cold drink and good music. Jeannie had a unique ability to show her love for others through her cooking and thoughtful gifts. She was the kind of friend you could depend on to tell you the truth and give you anything you needed.

Above all, she loved Frank and adored their son, Chase. He was the center of her world, her everything. There was no greater joy in her life than being his mother, and she poured her heart and soul into raising him to be the fine young man he is today.

Jeannie was loved by so many and will be missed more than words can express. Her legacy of love, generosity, bravery, and living life BIG and LOUD will continue to live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her. She was one of the crazy ones... not very fond of rules, hard to ignore... a rebel who changed the world.
