IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jeffrey Duane
Turk
April 9, 1955 – April 21, 2025
Jeffrey Duane Turk—a master craftsman, gentle soul, and connoisseur of cookies—passed from this world on April 21, 2025, at the age of 70. He left behind the scent of sawdust and the echoes of laughter that only a truly unique sense of humor can create.
Born on April 9, 1955, Jeffrey was the fourth child of Betty Jane and Leo Lewis Turk. He grew up in Huntsville, Alabama, where he graduated from Huntsville High School before chasing a life shaped by creativity and peace. An old soul with calloused hands and a heart full of kindness, he took pride in building things—homes, furniture, relationships—and always with care.
Jeff's talents led him to Alfred University's Wendell Castle School of Fine Woodworking, where he sharpened his skills and deepened his love for the artistry of his trade. He later added an Aerospace Technology degree from Calhoun Community College to his repertoire, launching a career that took him to Kratos, NTA, and KORD. But no matter how advanced the technology, woodworking seemed etched into his very being and remained his greatest passion. As owner of Turk Woodworking, Jeffrey crafted heirlooms with soul, designed to last generations.
He was a builder in every sense- shaping not only homes and fine furniture, but also the quiet, meaningful moments that define a life well-lived. His bond with his mother, Betty Jane, was profound and lasting; her kindness, wit, and unwavering love lived on through him.
Jeffrey had a soft spot for the familiar comforts of life: the warm crackle of a baseball game on the radio, the clever banter of A Way with Words, the mountain tunes of Ozark Highlands Radio, and the grainy glow of old TV shows. He devoured Westerns with the same devotion he gave to his beloved cookies—always with a twinkle in his eye and a story ready to read.
He is survived by his loving siblings: Lee (Sharon) Turk, Gary Turk, Barnett (Marybeth) Turk, and Ellen Little (Jeff), along with a large and grateful circle of nieces, nephews, and chosen family friends who adored him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty Jane and Leo Lewis Turk, and his brothers, Gregory Lewis Turk and Martin Charles Turk.
In the soft grain of oak and the rhythm of a well-worn radio dial, Jeffrey's presence lingers. He was a rare blend of laughter and wisdom, mischief and integrity—a true artisan of life.
In honoring him, may we all build a little more carefully, laugh a little more freely, and never underestimate the power of a good cookie.
A celebration of life will be held at Berryhill Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, May 10 at 4pm; 2305 N Memorial Pkwy, Huntsville, AL 35810.
