Jerry Frederick Taylor, 85, of Athens, AL, died March 31, 2023 with his family by his side.
Mr. Taylor was born January 13th, 1938, in Fayetteville, NC, to Irvin and Edith Taylor.
He attended Hanover High School in Wilmington, NC. He continued his education at The University of North Carolina in Wilmington, NC., graduating in 1958 with an AA.
He also received a BA from Faulkner University in Birmingham, AL
He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard, 1958-1966.
He played basketball for UNCW, and was a big fan of the North Carolina Tarheels. He enjoyed playing tennis, basketball, and spending time with his family.
He and his family were residents of Vestavia Hills, AL from 1977-1997.
Before he retired, he was a regional manager for F.W. Dodge, a subsidiary of McGraw Hill.
He loved to travel and make new friends. He never met a stranger.
He loved to tell jokes, and to to make people laugh. He was exceptionally loyal, trustworthy, and had a heart bigger than most.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Taylor; his son, Todd Taylor (Barbara Taylor); his daughter Krista (Taylor) Wendle (Christopher Wendle); his granddaughters, Valerie Taylor (Gray Cato), and Melanie (Taylor) Cullen (Drayton Cullen); and nephews Anthony Lawler; Bart and Jon Murtland.
A special thank you goes out to Henry and Alison Barrett; Frank and Frechia Barrett; and everyone who supported the family. God is especially fond of each and every one of you!
He was preceded in death by his father, Irvin Taylor; his mother Edith Lawler; and his sister, Jan Murtland.
A memorial service will be held at Athens United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 11:00 AM.
