Jo Anna Bowman Sparks died on November 8, 2025 in Huntsville, Alabama with family. She has gone to stand before and be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 30, 1938. She lived in Ringgold, Georgia during her formative and school years and graduated from Ringgold High School class of 1956. She was married to William Robert Sparks, Sr. in 1958. JoAnn was primarily a stay home mom but was also employed as a dental assistant, as a member of the local television "Kroger Price Patrol", and as a management assistant for several subsequent machining businesses in Red Bank, Tennessee.
She was an active member of both the Hixson and then the Red Bank Church of Christ and was involved in the work of both churches.
JoAnn was a faithful wife and a loving mother to her children. She gave birth to William Robert Jr. in 1960 and to Jeffery Scott in 1963. Her children were very special to her. She sacrificed everything for them and loved her boys well. As Dad said often, "Boys, your Mom is the best Mom ever."
She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert T. Bowman; and mother, Otelia Clifton Bowman; her husband, William Robert Sparks Sr.; her sisters, Juanita Morris and Beverly Stakely; brothers, Marion "Buddy" Bowman, Leon Bowman and Troy Bowman.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, son William (Bill) Robert Sparks Jr and Brenda Sparks of Memphis, TN; son Jeffery Scott Sparks and Vicki Sparks of Huntsville, AL. She is survived by her grandchildren: Will Sparks III - son of Bill and Brenda in Memphis TN and Sara Grace Sparks and Natalie Scott Sparks - daughters of Scotty and Vicki. She is survived by her brother James "Jimmy" and Julie Bosma Bowman of Melbourne, FL.
Public Visitation will be Saturday 15 November 1-2:30 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held in the Chattanooga Funeral Home - North Chapel at 2:30 p.m. Preceding interment, there will be a short graveside service at neighboring Hamilton Memorial Gardens. For friends and family in Huntsville, there will be a receiving line at the Mayfair Church of Christ on Thursday 13 November 5-7 p.m.
